Mr. Wiseman was born in Tillamook, Oregon, October 30, 1942. After graduating from High School, he obtained a B.S. Degree in Chemistry from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. He worked in the Portland Police Department Crime Laboratory and went to Lewis and Clark College of Law, obtaining a J.D. Law Degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark in June, 1973.
During law school Mr. Wiseman worked in several law related occupations, including working as a patrol officer for the Portland Police Department, an Investigator with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office and as a law clerk with the firm of Hershiser, Mitchell and Warren, Portland, Oregon. Upon graduation Mr. Wiseman was hired as a Deputy District Attorney by then District Attorney Des Connell. Later Mr. Wiseman was hired by District Attorney Pat Horton in Lane County, Eugene, Oregon, where he worked until late 1977, when he left to enter private practice in Portland, Oregon.
During the 1980s and early 1990s Mr. Wiseman was appointed by the Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court as an Oregon Circuit Court Judge Pro-Tem to travel all over the state of Oregon to judge cases as required in the numerous Circuit Courts. Also, Mr. Wiseman was appointed as an arbitrator for Washington County and hears cases under the Oregon Arbitration Rules for Washington County. In these capacities he has gained great insight into the inner workings of the Oregon Judicial System and Oregon Court process. This experience serves him well in all aspects of litigation.
Mr. Wiseman started defending capital murder cases in 1979, the year Oregon reinstated the death penalty for murder. Since then he has seen the death penalty overturned twice by the Oregon Supreme Court and reinstated again in 1984. Mr. Wiseman has been involved in over 50 death penalty cases in numerous jurisdictions throughout Oregon. He is involved in at least one death penalty case every year and is currently lead or co-counsel in three death penalty cases.
Mr. Wiseman has expanded his practice to include personal injury litigation and bankruptcy. The firm has always strived to include areas of practice that involve helping the individual rather than the big corporation or government. The philosophy is that government and big corporations always can hire legal assistance for an advantage. The individual needs the assistance of dedicated attorneys who will work on a budget for them.
